Sportshall Athletics - District Champions, County Finalists!
Congratulations to Team Blackwell who won the Bolsover District finals of the Sportshall Athletics competition at Shirebrook.
Our team took part in the Derbyshire County finals and, while they were sadly not the winners, should be extremely proud of being one of the best teams in Derbyshire! Well done to all of you - we are so very proud of you!
On Friday 5th we held our annual Harvest Festival event. Thank you to all of our children, parents, carers and those in the community who supported us. Your donations will make a big difference to the most vulnerable in our community.
Hen Welfare Trust Visit
On Thursday 19th April the Hen Welfare Trust visited Blackwell to teach Mr Ward's class all about chickens - and were accompanied by some very special visitors! We hope to welcome you back to Blackwell again soon!
Wheelchair Basketball Day
We took part in a special sporting event, "Wheelchair Basketball Day", on Friday 13th April. All classes will be took part throughout the day and had great fun - as well as building an understanding of what it feels like to be in a wheelchair.
To help raise awareness of Centronuclear and Myotubular Myopathy, we are running our very own sunflower growing competition! Sunflowers were sent out on the last day before Easter and we already have lots of very strong seedlings - please keep checking back for updates as they continue to grow!
Bug Hotel/Fairy House/Bird House Decorating
Thank you to everybody who took part in the decorating. We will shortly be varnishing our creations ready to go out in the secret garden.
Thank you to Felley Priory
A huge thank you to Felley Priory near Underwood for donating crates full of wonderful plants for our school gardens - as well as many other extras!
Our gardening club will be meeting soon to begin planting and beautifying the outdoor space.
We look forward to welcoming Felley Priory when our project is completed for a tour!
National Gardening Week & Gnome Zone
We took part in National Gardening Week at Blackwell Primary. Our Food for Life Bronze Award is almost there (thank you to the Office and the Buddies for co-ordinating this) and all children had the chance to take part in gardening themed activities.
The Gnome Home/Zone lunchtime was, as expected, very popular and the Gnome Roam was oversubscribed! Mr White and Miss Flint also had great fun hiding the gnomes in devious places! See our Twitter for our gallery!
Congratulations to our school tag rugby team for their masterful performance at the Tibshelf Tag Rugby Megafest!
Also, well done to our girls football team who secured third place at the Shirebrook tournament - we are very proud of you all!
A PCSO visited school in February to teach us how to Stay Safe Online! Thank you to PC Land and PCSO Brownlee for taking the time to see us!
BLACKWELL PRIMARY SCHOOL
The NSPCC visited Blackwell to run workshops and a special assembly for all the children in school, on the theme of "Speak Out, Stay Safe". Thank you for coming to see us - we had a great time!
Friendship Day Special Dinner
Thank you to Mrs Howe and Mrs Devaney for cooking and serving a special Friendship Day dinner for all the children in school. As usual it was a great success! Also many thanks to Miss Flint for producing the wonderful table and hall decorations.
Progressive Sports Dancing Event
Lucy from Progressive Sports led Key Stage 1 in a special dancing assembly. They have been rehearsing their routines for several weeks and performed for the rest of the school in the celebration assembly on Friday 20th April. Well done to all of you - we really enjoyed watching your performance!
Winter Warmer Dinner Day
Thank you to Mrs Howe for cooking a delicious "Winter Warmer" dinner for all the children in school. We all really enjoyed it!
Mr Fox from Alfreton Rotary Club visited school to speak to our School Council. We will shortly be building the greenhouse on the school field.
Thank you to everybody who partied at our valentines disco! We made a great total of £185.91 for our school fund! Also - a very big thank you to Amy, Kelly, Sally and the other PTA members who organised and ran the disco for us!
Thank you so much for your support at the Fayre - it was great to see so many of you there!
The work produced by the children was brilliant and a big thank you to the Blackwell Buddies who did a fantastic job of organising it.
CEMEX and Rainbridge - THANK YOU
A very big thank you to Cemex and Rainbridge, who built the new fence around the school pond and cleared a huge space for us. Thank you for all of your help!
On Tuesday 31st January, FS2, Y1 and Y2 took part in a RSPB activity session. Mr Ward’s class focussed on “Giving Nature a Home” and mapped and scored the school grounds for animal habitats, Miss Hatter’s class explored the school field looking for mini beasts and where we can find these. A great time was had by all and we look forward to welcoming the RSPB back in school soon.
Tesco Bags of Help - WINNERS!
Thanks to all of your help in our school community and in Blackwell village, we have won first place in the final voting for the Tesco Bags of Help scheme! This means the school will receive £4,000 which we will be using to create a STEM lab in Mrs Gardner's old classroom.

Food for Life
Blackwell is participating in the "Food for Life" scheme! We will soon be having sessions for our parents, carers and school community about healthy eating, growing our own food, and making cooking fun! We are applying for the Food for Life Bronze Award and hope to achieve this by the end of the summer term - please help us if you are able to do so!

Big Bandana Bake Afternoon
We raised a magnificent £701.44 at the Big Bandana Bake afternoon. This is the most money ever raised in a single event at Blackwell Primary. We can't thank everybody enough for their support and to our wonderful Buddies for organising the event. The money will be going to a very good cause.
