Big Battery Hunt
We hope you are all doing well collecting your used batteries - there are now collection tubs in our main classrooms and the library from which they will be recycled.
Mr Fox from Alfreton Rotary Club visited school to speak to our School Council. We will shortly be building the greenhouse on the school field but to do so we will need 1,100 2L plastic bottles - please wash out and save any bottles for us!
Friendship Day Special Dinner
Thank you to Mrs Howe and Mrs Devaney for cooking and serving a special Friendship Day dinner for all the children in school. As usual it was a great success! Also many thanks to Miss Flint for producing the wonderful table and hall decorations.

Thank you to Mrs Howe for cooking a delicious "Winter Warmer" dinner for all the children in school. We all really enjoyed it!
Food for Life
Blackwell is participating in the "Food for Life" scheme! We will soon be having sessions for our parents, carers and school community about healthy eating, growing our own food, and making cooking fun! We are also hoping to apply for the Food for Life Bronze Award - and we will need your help to do so! More details will follow soon.
A PCSO visited school this week to teach us how to Stay Safe Online! Thank you to PC Land and PCSO Brownlee for taking the time to see us!
On Tuesday 31st January, FS2, Y1 and Y2 took part in a RSPB activity session. Mr Ward’s class focussed on “Giving Nature a Home” and mapped and scored the school grounds for animal habitats, Miss Hatter’s class explored the school field looking for mini beasts and where we can find these. A great time was had by all and we look forward to welcoming the RSPB back in school soon.
To help raise awareness of Centronuclear and Myotubular Myopathy, we are joining a sunflower growing competition! We hope you will all be able to take part and that we have lots of beautiful sunflowers to enjoy all summer long. More details will follow soon.

Parent Volunteers needed
As some of you know, we are currently renovating the school grounds.
In doing this we would really appreciate any help possible from parents.
Mr White and Miss Flint are organising the garden project so please pop in to see us if you are able to help in any way.
Thank you to Oilwell
A big thank you to Oilwell Nursery Garden Centre in Tibshelf for donating a huge amount of resources - compost, bark, gravel, tyres, and plants for our new gardening club and sensory area.
We look forward to welcoming you back when the project is finished!
Tesco Bags of Help
From 2nd January 2018 to 28th February 2018 Blackwell will be taking part in the final round voting in the Tesco Bags of Help at the Tesco Superstore on Hall Street, Alfreton!
For each purchase in store (no minimum amount) you will receive a token to post in the Bags of Help display near the main entrance. Please support us by posting your token in the Blackwell slot!
The first prize is a huge £4,000 so your support will make a real difference in school! Any monies we receive will be used to create a STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) lab in Mrs Gardner's old classroom.
