BLACKWELL PRIMARY SCHOOL
Sportshall Athletics - District Champions, County Finalists!
Congratulations to Team Blackwell who won the Bolsover District finals of the Sportshall Athletics competition at Shirebrook.
Our team took part in the Derbyshire County finals and, while they were sadly not the winners, should be extremely proud of being one of the best teams in Derbyshire! Well done to all of you - we are so very proud of you!
Wheelchair Basketball Day
We took part in a special sporting event, "Wheelchair Basketball Day", on Friday 13th April. All classes will be took part throughout the day and had great fun - as well as building an understanding of what it feels like to be in a wheelchair.
Mr Fox from Alfreton Rotary Club visited school to speak to our School Council. We will shortly be building the greenhouse on the school field. Thank you to all the children, parents and volunteers who are collecting plastic bottles.
Hen Welfare Trust Visit
On Thursday 19th April the Hen Welfare Trust visited Blackwell to teach Mr Ward's class all about chickens - and were accompanied by some very special visitors! We hope to welcome you back to Blackwell again soon!
National Gardening Week & Gnome Zone
Blackwell Primary took part in National Gardening week. We are well on our way to our Food for Life Bronze Award (thank you to Mr White, Miss Flint and the Buddies for co-ordinating this) and the children took part in many exciting activities.
The Gnome Home/Zone lunchtime was, as expected, very popular and we will be the Gnome Roam was similarly popular - some of the gnomes were hidden in very devious places!
Food for Life
Blackwell is participating in the "Food for Life" scheme! We will soon be having sessions for our parents, carers and school community about healthy eating, growing our own food, and making cooking fun! We are applying for the Food for Life Bronze Award and hope to achieve this by the end of the summer term - please help us if you are able to do so!
To help raise awareness of Centronuclear and Myotubular Myopathy, we are running our very own sunflower growing competition! Sunflowers were sent out on the last day before Easter and we already have lots of very strong seedlings - please keep checking back for updates as they continue to grow!
Big Bandana Bake Afternoon
We raised a magnificent £701.44 at the Big Bandana Bake afternoon. This is the most money ever raised in a single event at Blackwell Primary. We can't thank everybody enough for their support and to our wonderful Buddies for organising the event. The money will be going to a very good cause.
Parent Volunteers needed
As many of you know, Mr White, Miss Flint and the Blackwell Buddies are currently working on renovating the school grounds. Any donations or help from parents, carers and green-fingered friends and relatives would be massively appreciated! Please call in to the office if you are able to help us.
Tesco Bags of Help - WINNERS!
Thanks to all of your help in our school community and in Blackwell village, we have won first place in the final voting for the Tesco Bags of Help scheme! This means the school will receive £4,000 which we will be using to create a STEM lab in Mrs Gardner's old classroom.
Thank you to everybody who has supported us - we couldn't have done it without you! We will regularly be posting updates on our progress so please keep checking back for updates.

CEMEX and Rainbridge - THANK YOU
A very big thank you to Cemex and Rainbridge, who built the new fence around the school pond and cleared a huge space for us. Thank you for all of your help!
